LONG OVERDUE UPDATE!!!

Fall here in the midwest is something we have never seen before. The glorius colors, the tall tall tall corn, the humongeous combines that harvest the corn and soybeans are something to behold! We have truly enjoyed seeing the world from this point of view!

One evening when I was out taking pictures of a farmer and his wife harvesting, they stopped and asked me if I wanted to ride with them. They were the nicest people! They started right off telling us they were not some of the Nauvoo people that did not like the Mormons. They were fearful this years harvest would be poor because of the tremendous amount of rainfall at planting time last year. It not only delayed their planting time but because the soil was so wet the quality of corn was not as good. They normally got 160 bushels of corn per acre, this year they were only getting about 104 bushels. The combine had the equipment to give that information as they drove up and down the rows harvesting. AMAZING!!!! We also have a new love for the name John Deere. I have never appreciated the equipment before now. Everywhere we drive we see John Deere equipment, both old and new! Like everything else they are continually updating so you want to buy new and better stuff!

Look at Dad go. He got a "fun taste" of shoveling snow. We have not got so much we are tired of it though. Everyone laughs at us desert Arizonans who get so excited over snow and ice!

We drove with our Rendezvous Y cast one evening to Quincy. We ate at a Chinese Buffet, then drove through a park that had acres and acres of light displays. It was beautiful.

There were about 5 drive thru tunnels of lights during the drive. We oooed and ahhhhed all night!

This is one of the wonderful little decorations that crossed Mullholland Street from one side of the street to the other, east of the Temple, through "downtown Nauvoo". It was so festive, we loved to drive it every chance we got!

What a beautiful Nativity scene was placed on the south lawn of the Nauvoo Temple. Simple, powerful, and peaceful are the words I can quickly find to describe it. We loved walking by it and reflecting with awed appreciation and gratitude the life of the Savior. What a privilege it is to ponder His life and example!!!!

We braved the ice storm just before Christmas to go out and give Pres. and Sis. Ludwig a little gift from a few of us. From R to L they are: E Joe Anderson, E Jerry McGhie, E & S Flake, S Marilyn McGhie, E Henry Moffit first in back, Pres and S Ludwig in front, E & S Thomas in back, S Dorcas Anderson far right.

The picture at the President's home does not look like and ice storm, but you can see by the front of the car that there was 1/2 inch of ice on all the vehicles, except ours, we have a garage. One of the only ones in Nauvoo! Yes, we are lucky!

I worked in the Scovil Bakery the day we had the ice storm. I watched out the door as is steadily got icier and icier! Such beauty, as long as I could go home to my warm house and electric blanket!!!! Oh how I know Heavenly Father protected those early Saints that crossed the Mississippi. How do I know? I know NONE of them would have survived without divine intervention!

The snow, ice and lights in back of the Scvil Bakery were so beautiful as we closed up and went home to our warm homes and then Rendezvous that night! I am so thankful for the unrecognized (at the time) blessings in my life!

Last but not least, yet another gorgeous view of this most magnificent structure. It was a breathtaking sight as people navaigated the Mississippi in the 1840's. It is a breathtaking sight again. The astounding beauty with the aura of the full moon over the Temple is not captured to its capacity in this picture, but I hold that memory dear in my mind!
